Miata Rearview Mirror Spacer Installation for Miatas with Rollbars
Years ago I made this rearview mirror spacer to lower the rearview mirror a bit to see below the roll bar and finally be able to see behind me in my 1993 Miata. This mirror spacer will fit any NA miata with the rearview mirror attached to the windshield frame. If your Miata has the rear view mirror glued to the windshield this will not work for your car. I sell these on my Etsy at the link below. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.

    I love 3d printing. One day you just find something broken in your house and you are scratching your head on where the hell you can get spare parts for it. Heck, you have a 3d printer, and I need to use the broken thing today. So you print the small thing that you need to replace thinking that it will be temporary, and now you realizes that it's been months since it has first broken.

    Somebody probably already pointed it out, but the reason for the hole is so the macro works with any size of bit. If you probe against the sides, then you have to account for the diameter of the bit. Which may change within passes depending of the bit used.

    • @SafetyGlassesRequired
      @SafetyGlassesRequired Рік тому

      Glued is attached directly to the glass. I've never heard of a mirror being glued to the frame of the windshield. So if it looks like the car in the video attached to the plastic covered metal frame you are good to pull down like shown. If the mirror is directly on the glass don't pull on it and this spacer will not work.

    Hi there, I’ve enjoyed watching your table build as well as this video. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of Openbuilds Lead content on UA-cam, so it’s nice to find some. I just got a lead 1515 with the same boot, and am debating what to do for dust collection. A year later, how happy with your shop vac / cyclone arrangement? On a scale of 1-10, 1 = light dust accumulation, becoming visible on surfaces after a few weeks of working, 10 = major sweep / cleanup required after each cnc session, where would you rate the solution? My workshop is very multi-purpose - woodwork, metal work, home gym, hang out space so I’m pretty keen to keep it tidy. The internet seems to suggest that anything less than a 1-2 HP dust collector on a cnc router is hopeless for controlling dust. Thanks.

    It is worth mentioning that other youtubers have tested 3d printed gears and found that 100% infill is recommended, otherwise they get shredded too easy. Might be pulleys are more forgiving, as they interface differently with their working surfaces counterparts

    I still don't fully understand what this probe is doing. Cant I just bring the machine to the corner of the workpiece and set zero? Is it just that the z height will be set more accurately?

    • @SafetyGlassesRequired
      @SafetyGlassesRequired 2 роки тому

      You can zero the axis without this probe. This makes the process quicker and more accurate. You can use a piece of paper and jog the axis until it drags. Then measure the thickness of the paper and offset by that amount and take into consideration the diameter/radius of the bit your using to get your zero location but this is going to be far slower (and maybe error prone) than this probe. If your just engraving signs, flattening a glue up or a slab of wood a few thousandths accuracy is probably over kill and you can eyeball it. If you're making mechanical things that need to align to other parts accuracy is more critical. Or if you are doing toolpaths that require switching bits from say a flat endmill to cut the shape out and a chamfer mill to chamfer the edges then you need reset your z-zero height after the tool change this will make compensating for that a breeze. Another example is flipping a part over to machine both sides and you need to zero so the features align. Obviously there are ways you can make clever fixturing to help resolve some of these scenarios but this is just another useful tool to simplify and speed up the process of accurately finding a corner of your part.

    Dont bump or drop that interface even on your shoe. Also I'd reinforce that screen ribbon cable preemptively- without it renders the Interface wafer useless, replacement screens are discontinued, 200$ bread toss. Reinforce - that -cable

    • @SafetyGlassesRequired

      How do you recommend reinforcing it? Some kind of tape or?

    • @redherring5532
      @redherring5532 2 роки тому

      @@SafetyGlassesRequired I had started modeling a 3d print out of tpu to be able to give the screen some cushion until I realized there wasnt a way to replace the screen. But an easy fix would be to put some thin foam tape behind the screen where the ribbon cable is tucked and soldered onto the board, the cable and screen are just held in place with one thin peice of double sided flat tape. There is a connector on the other side of the board to hook in a new one but openbuilds support said it wont work.

    I'm pretty sure if you're just doing a Z - Zero, then you can just turn the probe plate upside down and then probe. The probe can lay dead center on your material for instance...

    • @SafetyGlassesRequired
      @SafetyGlassesRequired 2 роки тому

      That's a good point and probably works for z zeroing I will have to try that. The scenario I didn't mention but it was specifically imagninging was flipping a part after machining one side and wanting to pick up the same corner. I suppose clever fixturing can handle this but is more steos. My past CNC expierence has largely been on CNC mills where I have a probe or wobbler on a Bridgeport and I can pick up any feature and any orientation. Coming from that this feels simpler but limiting.
